In one of the significant developments in the area of nanotechnology, chemists from Rice University have discovered a technique using which carbon nanotubes can be cut into seeds and used for creating new nanotubes. It is expected that if this technique turns out to be successful that it would be possible of producing a number of pure nanotubes for various materials applications.

This research would be published in the coming issue of the Journal of the American Chemical Society. It is expected that this technique would help in reproducing some of the best nanotubes.

James Tour, Director, Rice Carbon Nanotechnology Laboratory said:

Carbon nanotubes come in lots of diameters and types, and our goal is to take a pure sample of just one type and duplicate it in large quantities. We’ve shown that the concept can work.
