This has been proved beyond doubt that nanoparticles could transport drugs into cancer cells but it is still unclear as to whether drug payload could exit the tiny endosomes that pulled nanoparticles into cells. Due to this there is still some doubt that only a small portion of nanoparticle’s drug payload would get into the cytoplasm of the cell and launch an attack on its intended intracellular molecular target.
Now some researchers at the University Of Ulsan College of Medicine, Korea have created a self assembling nanoparticle which can sense the low pH of endosomes and fall apart. This disintegration not only leads to the release of drug payload but also ensures that it exits the endosomes. The team was led by Yong Woo Cho and the results of the study were published in the Journal of Controlled Release.
