Motorola Labs has released a news release with the following headline “Functionalizing Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes with Peptides Enables Selective Molecule Detection’. The news suggests that Motorola has discovered the method for detecting chemical and biological agents down to the parts per trillion level. It is expected that Motorola might develop sensors which are capable of monitoring a number of environmental and health issues which includes industrial chemicals, air and water quality and biological agents.
As Motorola has found out ways for using peptides for detecting various chemicals without disruption of unique electronic properties of carbon nanotubes and the devices could be used for creating sensors which could be integrated into next generation WiMAX products which includes everything ranging from RFID chips to mobile phones for creating a powerful network which could seamlessly communicate environmental changes to other people and devices.
