There is no clear strategy for examination of the possible health, environmental and safety risks posed by nanotechnology and this is creating problems in the successful development of technology which has the potential in the field of energy and medicine.

Dr. Andrew Maynard stated that nanotechnology no longer occupies the place of scientific curiosity and if the benefits of nanotechnology are to be realized then the federal government requires a master plan for y on nanotechnology research, U.S. government spending on highly relevant nanotechnologyidentifying and reducing the risks associated with the technology.

A top down risk research strategy must be implemented for this purpose and the resources should be utilized effectively.

Dr. Andrew Maynard stated:

The federal government needs to invest a minimum of $100 million over two years in targeted risk research in order to lay a strong, science-based foundation for safe nanotechnology. Despite investing more than $1 billion annuall risk research is only $11 million per year.
