A team of researchers at the California Nanosystems Institute are using nanotechnology for examining single molecules for detecting gene expression which can help in accurate examination of single cancer cells.
This new technique has enabled researchers in identification and isolation of individual transcript molecules which was not possible with the earlier techniques. Before this it was not possible for the researchers to determine gene expression based on DNA sequencing and micro array technology.
In the future it is expected that we would see more of such highly multi-disciplinary research meant for single molecule sequencing and proteomic analysis. This approach has enabled to develop a clear understanding of how various components of robotics and nanotechnology could be combined.
