Ford and Boeing working on nanotechnology

One of the largest automobile giants, Ford is working on nanotechnology for developing lighter and stronger metal and plastic so that the safety and economy of its cars and trucks could be improved. For this purpose, Ford is using Local Electrode Atom Probe which is an advanced laboratory device for cutting the time it uses for analyzing the molecular makeup of metals and plastics and make them light weight and durable. The company is one of the first automobile manufacturers which have been applying nanotechnology to its products. The company has been working on nanoparticles as fillers for reducing the weight and increasing the strength of both metal and plastic. The company is even working on nanofluids which can help in reducing friction and increasing conductivity in vehicles. In order to make all this possible Ford along with Boeing has entered into an agreement with Northwestern University for this purpose. The companies have earlier too collaborated for important developments.
