Texas -based Rice University’s Center for Biological and Environmental Nanotechnology (CBEN) is receiving extended funding from U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) for five years for an amount of $12 million.

Since nanoparticles are small therefore further research is required for finding out whether nanoparticles in manufactured products could enter the human body and if they did how long they could remain there. Researchers would also be studying the fate and transport of nanoparticles in the environment.

CBEN was the first academic research which was founded for studying the interaction between living organisms, nanomaterials and ecosystems and it has been actively involved in informing lawmakers, public and industry regarding the unintended environmental consequences of biotechnology.
